To find information on our pedigrees and clearances, please access the Berner Garde database. Both Bailey & Kona are registered and we encourage all of our new pet owners to do the same with their pup's health information.

The Berner Garde Foundation was established to collect & maintain records of genetic dieases found in the Bernese Mountain Dog. The Foundation also funds research on these genetic diseases with the goal of determining what causes particular diseases, especially cancer, and eventually finding a cure or preventative measure.

Kona

Registerd Name: Hylen's Kekona on the Ridge
Family Name: Kona
DOB: 01/28/2004
Hip Clearances: OFA - Good
Berner-Garde ID: 29592
Pedigree:
Sire: Little Bear Geesey Dam: Geesey's Bailey Cantaloupe

Kona is Bailey's firstborn female.  I was expecting my last child and Bailey was pregnant with her first litter of puppies. The pups would be ready to go to their new homes 1 week before the arrival of our daughter. We all agreed that we would not be keeping any of the pups. Then. . . lo and behold, the pups arrived! When we saw Kona, and her beautiful littermates,  our prior decision went out the window and our hearts melted. Kona has matured into a gorgeous, intelligent Bernese Mountain Dog girl.

We are very pleased that we decided to keep her. She is such an affectionate, loyal companion who thrives on attention and love from all and her sweet disposition is, amazingly, very similar to Bailey's. And so goes the saying, "Like mother, like daughter." Not always necessarily true, but we were fortunate enough to be blessed with these two wonderful Berners who just adore each others company. They are, and always will
be. . . "our girls".

Female Bernese Moutain Dog

Registerd Name: Geesey's Bailey Canataloupe
Family Name: Bailey
DOB: 11/23/01
Hip Clearances: Pennhip - Clear
Berner-Garde ID: 20480
Sire: Arko Z Agorovho Dvora Dam: Gretchen Geesey

Bailey has been spayed and is now retired from breeding. She will continue to maintain her well-deserved, pampered lifestyle in the comforts of our home, while keeping an ever-watchful eye on daughters, Kona & Willow.

How did Bailey get her name? As we were driving home from a holiday shopping trip, my husband & I were tossing around names for our new pup. Our 4 year old son had a few names to contribute. So we told him that he could choose her middle name. Being a fruit lover, he narrowed it down to Honeydew & Cantaloupe. We all decided the latter sounded best with Bailey, who was named after Bailey's Irish Cream, one of the items we had just purchased!

Bailey is everything we hoped for in a Berner. Her gentleness with the children is remarkable. Often, our sons can be found napping next to her or on her.  Our daughter loves to give her hugs and I think both Bailey and Kona enjoy her because she tends to sneak them food! Bailey loves to cuddle and thinks she is a lap dog.  Don't all large dogs think this way?!

Since we added Bailey to our home, we have felt truly blessed. Her disposition is incredible. Whenever she has pups, she likes to escort guests to the whelping box to meet them. She is always such a proud mom! She will maintain a watchful eye, but will never react negatively. Being owned by a Berner (or Berners) is one of the most wonderful adventures in life!
